Hosting in the "Good Morning Croatia" show on the topic: Thermal Water for Heating

In the "Good Morning Croatia" show, Julije Domac, the director of the Regional Energy and Climate Agency of Northwestern Croatia, and Danijel Javorić Barić, the director of the Special Hospital for Medical Rehabilitation in Krapinske Toplice, were guests. They presented the HyPoKraT project, focused on using geothermal water for heating in the hospital and surrounding public buildings in the municipality of Krapinske Toplice.
The project is expected to be implemented within two to three years and represents an innovative approach to utilizing geothermal energy for heating the hospital. An annual savings of €3,339,246.25 is anticipated, and the geothermal potential can also be used for heating greenhouses. The appearance highlighted the advantages of geothermal energy in reducing CO2 emissions and sustainable resource utilization.
Director Domac emphasized that the use of geothermal water for heating in Croatia is still limited, with legislation, high initial costs, and risks posing challenges. Funding the project at the local level is challenging, but support from the European Union is expected, as well as engagement from local resources. ...

The final press conference of the HyPoKraT project was held in Krapinske Toplice

On Tuesday, December 12, 2023, the final press conference for the HyPoKraT project – Hydrothermal Potential of Krapinske Toplice was held at the Special Hospital Krapinske Toplice. The project aimed to research and valorize the geothermal potential in the Municipality of Krapinske Toplice. The project was led by the Krapina-Zagorje County, with REGEA and the Municipality of Krapinske Toplice managing the operational aspects in collaboration with domestic and Norwegian experts. The total project value was 216,217.42 euros, funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway through the EEA Financial Mechanism for the period 2014-2021. The project outcomes, along with detailed study documentation, represent long-term value serving as a technical basis for implementing heating systems using geothermal energy. The gathered data, crucial for the study documentation, will form the foundation for future projects. Through their analysis, it is possible to accurately determine optimal locations for new geothermal wells and identify sites for installing new systems to harness this renewable energy. ...

Exciting Study Trip to Bergen: Knowledge Exchange on Geothermal Energy with NORCE Partner

As part of the implementation of the HyPoKraT project, members of REGEA and AP Consulting had the privilege of participating in a study trip to Bergen from October 16 to 20, 2023. The goal of this trip was to establish collaboration with NORCE, the Norwegian Research Centre, and seize the opportunity to exchange experiences, knowledge, and examples of best practices in the field of geothermal energy and renewable energy sources.
NORCE, an institution with an impressive financial strength of 950 million euros and 750 experts from 50 different nationalities, represents a key player in advanced research and development throughout Norway. Their multidisciplinary approach, connecting the academic community, industry, and public authorities, and their focus on advancing knowledge, attest to the institute's ability to make a significant impact in the field of advanced research.
During the visit to NORCE, participants had the opportunity to attend a series of meetings where the project's HyPoKraT preliminary results were presented. Valuable knowledge and experiences regarding geothermal energy were exchanged, and key aspects of the project, such as data analysis, geological model development, and fluid simulation, were the subjects of intense discussions. Participants also had the chance to visit NORCE's laboratories, where they familiarized themselves with experimental understanding of underground flows and related bio-geo-chemical processes....

Educational workshops held as part of the project in the Krapina-Zagorje County

The Municipality of Krapinske Toplice is participating as a partner in the project HyPoKraT - Hydrothermal Potential of Krapinske Toplice. One of the mandatory activities within the project is to conduct 11 educational workshops on the utilization of geothermal energy intended for various groups: high school students, potential users, and the general public.
Geothermal energy in the Krapina-Zagorje County is still not widely known or utilized. As a renewable source of energy and a potential driver of sustainable development, it has not been sufficiently valorized or promoted. Therefore, it is crucial to educate citizens, youth, the wider public, and local government representatives about the benefits of using geothermal energy as a clean, domestic, and accessible source of energy. Through the planned educational workshops under the HyPoKraT project, the goal is to stimulate interest in the broad application of geothermal energy and emphasize the positive aspects of its use in heating and agriculture. ...

Recording and Processing Magnetotelluric Data in the Krapina Toplice Area

We would like to share with our readers one of the crucial activities that took place during our research project - recording and processing magneto telluric data in the Krapina Toplice area. The magneto telluric method enables us to measure the magnetic and electrical natural field of the Earth, which is caused by magnetic and electrical currents. Through precise measurement and processing of this data, we can obtain information about the composition of the underground and provide a more detailed location of geothermal aquifers in collaboration with gravimetry. ...

Two key achievements in the HyPoKraT Project in the first half of 2023

The HyPoKraT Project aims to produce documentation that will enable future research and exploitation of renewable geothermal energy sources in the municipality of Krapinske Toplice. This effort will result in increased energy efficiency, reduced CO2 emissions, and mitigation of the impacts of climate change. Planned activities include the analysis of seismic profiles, geochemical and magnetotelluric measurements, and the creation of a 3D model of the geothermal reservoir. Additionally, an analysis of the geothermal energy potential in the municipality will be conducted, with a focus on refurbishing the KRT-1 well and developing the use of geothermal energy for heating purposes. The project will also organize educational activities, particularly targeting young individuals, to encourage education in the field of sustainable development and renewable energy sources. Through these activities, the project will contribute to strengthening the capacity for managing and promoting renewable energy sources in the local community. ...
