Educational workshops held as part of the project in the Krapina-Zagorje County

We would like to share with our readers one of the crucial activities that took place during our research project - recording and processing magneto telluric data in the Krapina Toplice area. The magneto telluric method enables us to measure the magnetic and electrical natural field of the Earth, which is caused by magnetic and electrical currents. Through precise measurement and processing of this data, we can obtain information about the composition of the underground and provide a more detailed location of geothermal aquifers in collaboration with gravimetry.
This natural research method utilizes a wide range of magnetic fields, and the sources of these fields can be various events such as lightning in the atmosphere. Magnetotellurics has become an applied geophysical method thanks to the work of scientists who, through their discoveries, enabled its extensive application in geology and underground resource research.
In the Krapina Toplice area, during April and May of 2023, we conducted recordings at 12 magneto telluric points, with an average recording time of 20 hours per point. The data was meticulously processed to ensure quality and reliability for further analysis. A 1D data inversion was performed, considering the lithological development of the geothermal water deposit and the depth of impermeable layers.
The results of our research indicate an anticlinal thrust structure with the possibility of repeating the sequence of deposits. This information helps us better understand the deep structure of the underground and identify potential rich deposits of minerals, industrial raw materials, underground water, and other resources.
Our efforts were directed towards creating a safe and sustainable future through a better understanding of the Earth's interior and its resources.
